Bernedoodle
The Bernedoodle is a cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle: a friendly, calm family dog, often with a curly tricolour coat. It comes in small to large versions, depending on the size of Poodle used.
Health
There is no breeding programme approved by Dierenwelzijn Vlaanderen (Animal Welfare Flanders) for this breed (yet). Without an approved breeding programme, no Flemish pedigree can be issued, but a lineage certificate can. Dierenwelzijn Vlaanderen strongly recommends carrying out the health tests on the parent dogs.

Considerations when buying
There is no breeding programme approved by Dierenwelzijn Vlaanderen for this breed (yet). Dierenwelzijn Vlaanderen strongly recommends carrying out the health tests on the parent dogs. Ask the breeder which health tests the parent dogs have had, and ask for the results. A Bernedoodle needs daily walks and play; how much depends on its size. The coat can be curly or wavy and needs regular brushing and clipping.
Questions for the breeder
- Which health tests have the parent dogs had, and may I see the results?
- Will the puppy receive a pedigree or a lineage certificate, and from which association?
- How are the puppies socialised before they go to their new home?
Breed-specific challenges
Because the Bernedoodle is a cross, size, coat and temperament can differ from puppy to puppy, even within one litter. It is usually friendly and family-oriented and does not like being left alone for long. Start lead training early, especially with the larger varieties.
