Goldendoodle
The Goldendoodle is a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle, usually with a gentle, sociable and eager-to-learn nature. As it is not a recognised breed, coat and size vary from litter to litter and a lot depends on the breeder’s choices.
Health
There is no breeding programme approved by Dierenwelzijn Vlaanderen (Animal Welfare Flanders) for this breed (yet). Without an approved breeding programme, no Flemish pedigree can be issued, but a lineage certificate can. Dierenwelzijn Vlaanderen strongly recommends carrying out the health tests on the parent dogs.

Considerations when buying
There is no breeding programme approved by Dierenwelzijn Vlaanderen for this breed (yet). Dierenwelzijn Vlaanderen strongly recommends carrying out the health tests on the parent dogs. Ask the breeder which health tests the parent dogs have had, and ask for the results. A Goldendoodle needs daily exercise and mental work; how much depends on its size. The coat can be curly or wavy and needs regular brushing and clipping every few months.
Questions for the breeder
- Which health tests have the parent dogs had, and may I see the results?
- Will the puppy receive a pedigree or a lineage certificate, and from which association?
- How are the puppies socialised before they go to their new home?
Breed-specific challenges
Because the Goldendoodle is a cross, size, coat and temperament can differ from puppy to puppy, even within one litter. It is very people-oriented and does not like being left alone for long. There is no approved breeding programme for the Goldendoodle, so ask which health tests the parent dogs have had, as Dierenwelzijn Vlaanderen strongly recommends.
